About Football Wide BayWelcome to Football Wide Bay - the governing body for football in the Wide Bay area.Operating under the Football Queensland jurisdiction, which is in turn affiliated with FFA and FIFA, Football Wide Bay - includes the five main centres of Gympie, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and North Burnett - (Biggenden, Gayndah, Munduberra and Monto). Football Wide Bay is one of the ten geographic football Zones in Queensland. Our Zone is also unique in that it encompasses four large cities, who independently, operate their own competitions. Most other Zones encompass just one city and its surrounding area. Due to the geographic size of this Zone, we face challenges in travelling and playing intercity competitions, but the passion for football combined with, a high level of co-operation and spirited rivalry between cities, enables all centres to play in the Wide Bay Championships for Junior representative players and the Wide Bay Champions League (an FA cup style competition for Senior players). Additionally, the Zone operates a full-time Centre of Excellence Program for Zone representative players who are eligible for State selection and a part-time Development Program for talented juniors who play annually in the Peter Cox and Harry Linning carnivals. The growth and development of football in this Zone is testament to the fact that football is the largest and fastest growing sport in the world. The numbers of players in the the Wide Bay region are a reflection of the sport's popularity with approximately 8000 registered players within the region this year. We look forward to welcoming new members throughout the Zone to the game that is loved by players of all ages and at all levels. Football is not just the world game - it's the family game. Come join the Wide Bay football family! |
